Properties alone: deserted buildings of the Italian Apennines – in photos

Panorama and structure photographer Vincenzo Pagliuca was at all times fascinated by the empty, remoted homes scattered across the Campania area of southern Italy the place he grew up. Since 2016 he has travelled alongside the Apennine mountain vary that runs nearly the size of the nation, photographing uninhabited rural homes and deserted vacation houses linked to ski tourism – now unused because of lack of snow. These pictures, collected within the e book Mónos, have been shot through the winter months to seize the actual high quality of the sunshine. “A home immersed in a winter panorama, much more so in its remoted state, evokes an ancestral sense of shelter and safety,” says Pagliuca. “It turns into an archetypal picture of intimacy, inviting us to replicate on the psychological significance of house for human beings.”
