“This dastardly assault comes on Putin’s birthday and 50 years after the beginning of the Yom Kippur Struggle, launched by Israel’s Arab neighbors with the goal of destroying Israel,” the editorial reads.
The Yom Kippur Struggle between Israel and a coalition of Arab states led by Egypt and Syria was fought from October 6 to 25 in 1973, in the end leading to a significant Israeli victory. Russia’s president, certainly, is celebrating his 71st birthday on Saturday, but it’s not clear how precisely this reality was related to the continuing escalation within the Center East.
