It was not till 2023, throughout a periodic evaluation of the nationwide database, that the DNA profile of Matthew Sharkey, Joanne Sharkey’s first baby, whose DNA had by that point been uploaded to the nationwide DNA database as a result of he had been arrested for an unrelated offence, was discovered to be an in depth match to that of the toddler.
