Joe Biden has withdrawn from the race for the US presidency, a rare choice upending American politics, that plunges the Democratic nomination into uncertainty simply months earlier than the November election in opposition to Donald Trump, a candidate he has warned is an existential menace to US democracy. Biden thanked the vice-president, Kamala Harris, in a letter saying his choice, and later endorsed her because the Democratic nominee for president in a tweet.
