Within the Zuleta neighborhood in Ecuador, farming is about extra than simply sustenance: it’s about cultivating a deep relationship with the land based mostly on ancestral data. In her travels within the area, Colombo-Ecuadorian photographer Yinna Higuera collaborates with rural ladies, who in alternate share their understanding of medicinal crops and provides her leaves from their gardens. In her Traces sequence, which has been shortlisted for a Sony world images award, Higuera makes use of chlorophyll printing to superimpose the ladies’s portraits on banana leaves, greens and herbs. “Every of those ladies has a novel story,” she says, “but all of them share a profound bond with the land.
