The chilling coverage to chop Greenland’s excessive start fee – podcast

Bula Larson was 14 when sooner or later she and her associates have been informed to go to the hospital. Bula lived in Greenland and was Inuit like a lot of the inhabitants of the island, which is an autonomous territory of Denmark. On the hospital she and her associates lined up, and one-by-one have been informed to enter a room. Bula recollects how she was requested to take a seat on a mattress with ‘chilly metallic stirrups’ the place, to her shock, she was fitted with an IUD, a contraceptive coil she had by no means requested for or agreed to have.

Right now, greater than 100 ladies are suing the Danish authorities for a coverage of compelled contraception. Helen Pidd hears how hundreds of Inuit ladies and women – some aged simply 13 – have been fitted with coils. Many say this was completed with out their or their mother and father’ consent, and induced lasting injury.

Celine Klint is a Danish journalist whose work on the coil scandal, alongside along with her colleague Anne Pilegaard Petersen, revealed there had been a Danish coverage to scale back Greenland’s birthrate to chop the amount of cash that needed to be spent on the area.

Now the ladies are suing the federal government and an inquiry is beneath approach. Will they get justice?
