Medical college professor nabbed peddling date-rape drug dubbed ‘coma in a bottle’: cops

An assistant professor on the College of Miami’s medical college has been charged with trafficking a date-rape drug often known as “liquid ecstasy” and “coma in a bottle.”

Dr. Dairon Garcia, 44, was hit with drug-related prices Friday after authorities stated they linked him to a bundle intercepted at Miami Worldwide Airport that contained about 15 kilos of gamma-hydroxybutyric acid, or GHB, recognized by the DEA as a date-rape drug, WPLG-TV Information reported.

“He needs to be so embarrassed being right here,” Miami-Dade Choose Mindy Glazer stated of Garcia at his arraignment. “He’s a medical physician, going by means of all these years of schooling and committing his life to serving to individuals and to get arrested for this.

“That’s between you, your lawyer and the legal justice system. Good luck to you, sir.”

Garcia, an assistant professor of medical radiology on the UM Miller Faculty of Medication, joined the college’s college in 2022 after graduating from Duke College’s medical college, the outlet stated.

The fees towards him stem from a bundle from Paris, France that was addressed to a duplex Garcia owns that was intercepted by customs officers on the airport on Aug. 29.

Miami police had been tipped off by the US Division of Homeland Safety, and staked out the deal with when the bundle was delivered on Sept. 12 and picked up from the doorstep by a lady.

After cops raided the house, the lady’s daughter informed them that the owner, Garcia, had known as to say {that a} bundle for him can be delivered there and “to please obtained [sic] that bundle,” in keeping with a police report reviewed by WPLG.

In the meantime, one other resident within the condo advanced informed police that one other bundle for Garcia from France had been delivered to their deal with on Sept. 7 — and one other bundle was intercepted on Sept. 25 that was addressed to DG Diagnostics MD LLC, which is registered to Garcia.

Police arrested him on Friday at his condominium on Biscayne Boulevard Method in downtown Miami.

He pleaded not responsible at his arraignment on Friday and was ordered held on $15,000 bail, which he posted later in that night. He declined to remark as he left.

Gamma-hydroxybutyric acid, or GHB, is colorless and simply blended in different drinks, usually leaving individuals unaware they’ve consumed it till they’re put to sleep, the DEA says, giving it the quite a few alarming nicknames like “grievous bodily hurt” and “coma in a bottle.”
