A 27-year-old man has died at Manchester airport after being arrested by Border Power officers.
The person had been stopped whereas going by safety in Terminal 2 on Wednesday after “displaying uncommon behaviour”, the police watchdog stated.
It’s understood he was later detained in reference to alleged drug offences, in accordance with the Manchester Night Information. He subsequently turned unwell and was pronounced lifeless at 1.53pm.
An investigation has begun into his loss of life, with the Impartial Workplace for Police Conduct (IOPC) finishing up impartial inquiries into the incident.
The person’s household had been being supported by specialist officers and up to date on the progress of the investigation.
An IOPC spokesperson stated: “We are able to verify that we’re independently investigating the circumstances of a 27-year-old man’s loss of life following his arrest by Border Power officers at Manchester airport on Wednesday 19 February.
“Our investigation follows a referral from the Residence Workplace which detailed how the person was resulting from journey from the airport on Wednesday and was stopped after displaying uncommon behaviour.
“He was subsequently arrested by officers and brought to a holding space the place he turned unwell and paramedics had been known as. Sadly, he was pronounced lifeless at 1.53pm.
“After being notified of the person’s loss of life, we declared an impartial investigation into the circumstances at 4.29pm on Wednesday. IOPC investigators had been despatched to the scene to start gathering proof.”
The IOPC’s director, Amanda Rowe, stated: “Firstly, our ideas are with the person’s household and family members, in addition to all these affected by his loss of life.
