Jewish teams applauded the Senate’s determination on Wednesday evening to reject a bid by Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-Vt.) to dam weapon gross sales to Israel.
The Senate voted 18-79 in opposition to a decision blocking the sale of tank rounds, 19-78 in opposition to a decision barring the sale of high-explosive mortar rounds and 17-80 in opposition to a decision banning the sale of joint direct assault munitions, CNN reported.
“AIPAC commends the US Senate for standing with Israel and overwhelmingly rejecting proposed bans on vital weapons gross sales to the Jewish state because it fights to guard its households from Iran and its terrorist proxies,” the pro-Israel group said. “We applaud the Biden administration for approving these gross sales and serving to guarantee Israel has the assets it must win.”
AIPAC added that almost all Senate Democrats and Republicans “once more demonstrated profound American help for our ally and rejected the damaging efforts” of Sanders “and his allies to weaken Israel and undermine the US-Israel relationship.”
