Jack Smith resigns from DOJ after main two Trump prosecutions

Particular Counsel Jack Smith — who oversaw two prosecutions of President-elect Trump — has resigned, in keeping with courtroom paperwork.

The embattled prosecutor’s exit was not sudden.

“The Particular Counsel accomplished his work and submitted his closing confidential report on January 7, 2025, and separated from the Division on January 10,” authorities wrote in courtroom papers filed Saturday in Florida.

Trump has repeatedly denied the allegations of interference within the 2020 election.
