Democratic Senate majority chief, Chuck Schumer, mentioned Israeli prime minister, Benjamin Netanyahu, has emerged as a ‘main impediment to peace’ in Gaza, in an additional signal of rising tensions between the US and its ally, Israel. Schumer, the highest-ranking Jewish official within the US, accused Netanyahu of bowing to stress from ‘extremists’ in his cupboard and appealed to Israel to ‘change course’, warning that the US can be ready to make use of its leverage to form Israeli coverage if it failed to take action
