Armed clashes erupted in Libya’s capital, Tripoli, on Monday night following stories of the assassination of a senior army commander.
In line with Al Jazeera, Abdul Ghani al-Kikli, head of the UN-backed authorities’s Stability Assist Equipment (SSA), was killed in a firefight in southern Tripoli. The incident reportedly occurred contained in the headquarters of the 444th Fight Brigade after “failed negotiations.”
Native media reported preventing and troop actions within the Abu Salim and Mashrou neighborhoods.

The United Nations Assist Mission in Libya (UNSMIL) stated it was “carefully monitoring stories of the army build-up and escalating tensions in Tripoli and the broader western area.”
“We urgently name on all events to right away de-escalate the state of affairs, chorus from any provocative actions, and resolve disputes via dialogue,” the mission stated in a press release.
