The Lebanon-based militant group Hezbollah confirmed the demise of its longtime chief, Hassan Nasrallah, in an Israeli airstrike that focused the southern Beirut suburb of Dahiyeh. Israel stated it had killed Nasrallah throughout a ‘exact’ operation within the Lebanese capital. Nasrallah had led the Iran-backed group for greater than 30 years, with second in command Hashem Safieddine rumoured to take Nasrallah’s place following his demise.
