Grenfell: the lies and greed uncovered – podcast

It’s greater than seven years since Grenfell Tower burned. Now, lastly, a public inquiry has completed sifting by way of hundreds of paperwork, proof from lots of of public hearings and greater than 1,600 witness statements. And its conclusions couldn’t be extra clear: each one of many 72 deaths was avoidable.

The Guardian’s social affairs correspondent, Rob Sales space, has reported on the tragedy from the start, talking to victims and specialists about what occurred on that horrible night time and what has occurred since. He tells Helen Pidd concerning the stunning revelations of the inquiry and why the businesses and people who’ve been named and shamed have but to be held accountable.

For many who survived the tragedy, and for these whose family members perished, the inquiry is a vital step in getting justice. Shah Aghlani, whose mom and aunt died, explains how the trauma has modified his life. Ed Daffran, who lived in Grenfell, predicted {that a} hearth may occur there, and says he thinks that is what occurs when revenue is put forward of lives. And survivor Tiago Alves explains how he’s attempting to honour the useless.

Now the survivors are calling for legal prosecutions. Rob explains why that is taking so lengthy and, with harmful cladding nonetheless on so many buildings, what’s being achieved to stop one other tragedy.
