New York Gov. Kathy Hochul has requested President Joe Biden to challenge a federal Emergency Declaration after extreme climate devastated parts of the state earlier this week.
Hochul’s letter to Biden notes the excessive winds and heavy rainfall that wrought havoc throughout 15 counties, together with Genesee, Herkimer, Montgomery, Oswego, Oneida, Saratoga, Schuyler on each July 15 and 16.
The governor additionally references the “unprecedented” 17 tornadoes that’ve already fashioned within the state this month, marking the biggest variety of confirmed tornadoes for New York in July since report holding started in 1950.
The letter was despatched to the president on Saturday.
Explaining she’s already declared a statewide emergency, Hochul stated federal help was wanted to assist clear particles from roadways and restore battered utilities.
