The US president held a press convention after the journalist Evan Gershkovich and others had been freed in a prisoner change between western international locations and Russia. Gershkovich, Paul Whelan, Alsu Kurmasheva and Vladimir Kara-Murza had been amongst these freed after being held in Russia. The change came about at Ankara airport in Turkey, with eight Russians held within the west returning to Russia. Amongst them was the murderer Vadim Krasikov, who has been held in a German jail since 2019 for the homicide of a Chechen exile in Berlin
