Escaping Rafah: on the bottom in Gaza’s final refuge – podcast

On Monday morning, the Israeli army dropped leaflets over japanese Rafah. They warned residents that army operations had been going to start out there, they usually wanted to go to ‘secure zones’ additional north. The knowledge prompted chaos, as hundreds of individuals tried to depart.

The choice of whether or not to remain or go is an advanced one.

“There isn’t any secure space within the Gaza Strip,” journalist Nedal Samir Hamdouna tells Michael Safi. He’s dwelling together with his household in a tent in Rafah.

Garam, 16, based mostly within the japanese space of the town, explains how costly it’s to depart. It’s a tough name when you don’t know whether or not Israeli forces will invade and also you want cash for meals.
