Eco-brutalism: when angular concrete meets the marvel of nature – in footage

On her @brutalistplants Instagram web page, Olivia Broome collects images that mix the angular shapes of uncooked concrete with the greenery of the pure world. “I actually benefit from the aesthetic of eco-brutalism and tropical modernism,” she says. “I really like mezzanines and ziggurats, and once you pair them with crops it softens them up. Brutalism will be this fairly harsh, austere structure fashion, however with nature concerned, it balances all of it out.” Now collected in a e-book, the photographs convey collectively buildings from throughout the globe, from Hong Kong to Sri Lanka, London to Mexico. “It’s a pleasing motion that folks can get behind, particularly in smaller areas and fashionable cities – it’s good to fill them with crops and nature.”

Brutalist Crops (Hoxton Mini Press, £20) might be revealed on Thursday
