Since its inception in 1967, the Montreux jazz pageant in Switzerland has hosted a dizzying array of musical expertise from the world of jazz and past: Ella Fitzgerald, David Bowie and Miles Davis, and extra lately Kendrick Lamar, Girl Gaga and Stormzy. The names behind its poster designs are equally illustrious, together with Andy Warhol, Keith Haring, Niki de Saint Phalle and Julian Opie; the most recent, by London-based artist Lakwena, commemorates Nina Simone’s 1976 efficiency. “Artists are given full artistic freedom,” says the pageant’s CEO Mathieu Jaton. “The pageant’s posters replicate the occasions and inventive developments wherein they had been created. They showcase the evolution of visible arts over the previous 60 years: from images and portray to purely graphic works.”
