Columbine capturing survivor loses battle with most cancers


A Colorado girl who survived the Columbine Excessive Faculty capturing greater than 25 years in the past has died, following a battle with most cancers. 

Karissa Rund, 40, who was recognized for “her resiliency, bravery, dedication and abiding service to God,” succumbed to colorectal most cancers on March 3, in keeping with a GoFundMe web page and her obituary. 

“Karissa was a Columbine capturing survivor, struggle widow, battled stage 4 most cancers for 10 years, and the largest encourager most of us have ever recognized. Her mission of service to folks, proclaiming the hope of God regardless of ache and struggling, and being a light-weight regardless of darkness – this legacy has modified her nook of the world. Karissa Rund, of Westminster, mentioned on her web site she was 11 years outdated when her mom died of breast most cancers and that she survived the Columbine Excessive Faculty capturing at age 14. 

“Once I was 20, I grew to become a struggle widow when my husband and highschool sweetheart was killed in motion in Iraq,” she added.

Rund then grew to become engaged to Doug Rund, the brother of her late husband Greg Rund, who died in Fallujah from small arms fireplace, in keeping with media experiences. 

Rund mentioned she was recognized with Stage IV colon most cancers on the age of 31.

Rund’s obituary describes her as having a “storied profession in civil service working as a speechwriter and public affairs specialist for the Division of Power, the Federal Emergency Administration Company, and at last the Division of Homeland Safety.” 

“She medically retired when she was not in a position to sustain with the pains of profession civil service and began a nonprofit ministry to assist, encourage, and doula all struggling folks. Her ministry touched many individuals throughout the nation and was a challenge she pursued till she was bodily unable,” the obituary continued. 

“Karissa was an abiding servant to God,” the obituary added. “She was a power of friendship on this world, a lover of journey, and a delighter within the victories of all these round her.”
