Columbia College’s interim president, Katrina Armstrong, is stepping apart and the co-chair of its board of trustees, Claire Shipman, has been named performing president, the college stated in an announcement on Friday.
Armstrong is returning to guide the college’s Irving Medical Heart, Columbia College stated, including: “Board of trustees co-chair Claire Shipman has been appointed performing president, efficient instantly, and can serve till the board completes its presidential search.”
In saying the management change, David Greenwald, chair of the board of trustees, stated: “Katrina has at all times given her coronary heart and soul to Columbia. We recognize her service and stay up for her continued contributions to the college.”
Shipman has served as co-chair of the board since 2023 and has been a board member since 2013. A journalist and creator, she holds two levels from Columbia.
“I assume this position with a transparent understanding of the intense challenges earlier than us and a steadfast dedication to behave with urgency, integrity, and work with our school to advance our mission, implement wanted reforms, defend our college students, and uphold educational freedom and open inquiry.
