CLEVELAND — A lady who authorities say fatally stabbed a 3-year-old boy as he sat in a grocery cart outdoors an Ohio grocery store and wounded his mom has been discovered incompetent to face trial.
Cuyahoga County Frequent Pleas Choose John Russo issued the ruling Friday. He stated Bionca Ellis, 33, of Cleveland, will stay hospitalized indefinitely and will finally stand trial if she improves.
Her bail was set at $5 million shortly after the assault occurred, and her trial had been tentatively scheduled to begin Dec. 9.
Authorities have stated Ellis was contained in the Large Eagle grocery retailer on June 3 within the Cleveland suburb of North Olmsted when she noticed Julian Wooden and his mom, Margot Wooden, close to the entrance and adopted them into the car parking zone.
The mom was about to load her groceries into her car when Ellis ran at them with a knife, stabbing the boy twice, in an assault that took lower than 5 seconds earlier than Ellis walked away.
The boy died at a hospital whereas Margot Wooden was handled at a hospital for a stab wound to her shoulder — a wound prosecutors have stated she suffered after attempting to drag the boy out of the cart through the assault.
Authorities haven’t given a motivation for the assault, which they imagine was a random incident.
Ellis is being represented by the general public defender’s workplace, which typically doesn’t touch upon instances.
