The proprietor and operator of the cargo ship that struck Baltimore’s Francis Scott Key Bridge in March, killing six folks, have agreed to pay $102m to the federal authorities, the US justice division mentioned on Thursday.
The division in September filed a civil declare in search of $103m from two Singaporean firms, Grace Ocean Personal Restricted and Synergy Marine Personal Restricted.
The declare was supposed to recoup the cash the US authorities spent responding to the catastrophe and clearing the wreck of the Dali ship and bridge particles from the Port of Baltimore so the waterway may reopen in June.
Principal deputy affiliate legal professional basic Benjamin Mizer mentioned the settlement “ensures that the prices of the federal authorities’s cleanup efforts within the Fort McHenry Channel are borne by Grace Ocean and Synergy and never the American taxpayer”.
