WASHINGTON — President Biden has given what seems to be his first on-record interview to a newspaper reporter since taking workplace — focusing prominently on his late son Beau’s hyperlinks to a transgender congressional candidate.
Biden, 81, spoke Thursday to reporter Chris Kane of the Washington Blade, a DC-based LGBTQ-focused newspaper, which printed a preview of Biden’s remarks Friday pertaining to Delaware state Sen. Sarah McBride, who received the Tuesday Democratic major for an open Home seat.
McBride, 34, could be the nation’s first overtly transgender member of Congress and labored on Beau Biden’s re-election marketing campaign for state legal professional common in 2010 whereas a scholar at American College.
“I known as her and I stated, ‘Sarah,’ I stated, ‘Beau’s wanting down from heaven, congratulating you,’” the retiring president stated.
“[Beau] was getting the hell kicked out” of him as a result of “he employed her,” Biden informed the outlet of McBride, who got here out as transgender in 2012, two years after her employment on his marketing campaign.
When McBride introduced she was transgender, Biden stated, his son known as her to say “I’m so happy with you. I like you, and also you’re nonetheless part of the Biden household.”

The president has not given recognized on-record interviews to reporters from some other newspaper since taking workplace in January 2021 — although he has completed a smattering of journal interviews and spoke in 2022 to a journalist from the Related Press wire service.
