The Indiana Supreme Courtroom has set the date for the primary state execution in 15 years.
The courtroom ordered Wednesday that Joseph Corcoran be executed earlier than dawn on Dec. 18, WXIN-TV reported.
Indiana’s final state execution was in 2009, in response to the Loss of life Penalty Info Heart, when Matthew Wrinkles was executed for murdering his spouse, her brother and sister-in-law.
The yearslong pause has been attributed to the unavailability of medicine utilized in deadly injections.
Gov. Eric Holcomb stated in June that the state Division of Correction had acquired the sedative pentobarbital, a drug a number of states use in deadly injections, and requested the Supreme Courtroom to set a date for Corcoran’s execution.
Corcoran, 49, was convicted in July 1997 killings of his brother, James Corcoran; 30-year-old Douglas A. Stillwell; 32-year-old Robert Scott Turner; and 30-year-old Timothy Bricker.
Corcoran has been on dying row since 1999.
He exhausted his appeals in 2016.
He had argued that the execution can be unconstitutional as a result of he suffers from a psychological sickness and that the state had did not disclose its execution protocol.
The primary federal execution in 17 years on the time was carried out at a federal jail in Indiana in 2020.
