Washington Submit proprietor Jeff Bezos defended his publication’s choice to not again a presidential candidate forward of the Nov. 5 election, insisting political endorsements “create a notion of bias.”
In an op-ed, Bezos argued his newspaper ending its long-running observe of endorsing a candidate for the White Home is a “principled choice, and it’s the correct one.”
“Presidential endorsements do nothing to tip the scales of an election. No undecided voters in Pennsylvania are going to say, ‘I’m going with Newspaper A’s endorsement.’ None,” he wrote.
“What presidential endorsements truly do is create a notion of bias. A notion of non-independence.”
