In 2022, Yosifov, from Bulgaria, had already visited India 4 instances, together with one journey to Varanasi. This time he traversed the town on foot for hours, in search of the proper shot. “The streets are so crowded,” he says. “Any empty house is stuffed immediately.”

Discovering a pause within the crowds, he took this shot. “Below a shiny umbrella the seller was promoting tender pears and apples, lovely pomegranates and persimmons, oranges, lemons and pineapples.
