Nationwide Guard troopers’ mission to assist New York Metropolis’s overburdened migrant shelters shall be “accomplished” subsequent week, The Publish has realized.
The deployment of New York Military Nationwide Guard troops — which started in 2022 — will cease helping metropolis officers in shelters beginning Dec. 18 because the migrant disaster cools off, state officers revealed Thursday.
All troops in migrant shelters throughout the state shall be despatched dwelling by March 31, based on orders obtained by The Publish that observe “mission accomplished.”
“At a time when New York Metropolis was overwhelmed with newly arrived migrants, the state deployed roughly 2000 members of the Nationwide Guard to offer logistical and operational help,” a press release from the state’s Division of Navy and Naval Affairs reads.
