A well-known ultramarathon runner was attacked by a coyote throughout a 150-mile run in California — and he recounted the terrifying encounter minutes after it occurred.
In a graphic video posted to Instagram, Dean Karnazes, 59, mentioned he was working by Marin Headlands early Saturday morning when the wild animal lunged at him.
Karnazes shared the footage of himself bleeding from his lip whereas warning others to watch out for coyotes.
“I simply had one thing moderately terrifying occur,” he mentioned. “I obtained attacked by a coyote. That was a primary.”
The runner mentioned he was fortunately utilizing poles on the paths and used one to whack the animal.
“Sort of brutal,” Karnazes mentioned. “Undecided what I’m gonna do. I assume I gotta hold going or else it’ll most likely come again for me.”
The ultramarathoner mentioned he believes the coyote wished his power bar. As he started to take a chew, he mentioned the animal lunged and knocked him to the bottom.
He later made an Instagram put up asking individuals — particularly vacationers — to not feed the wild animals.
“As I’ve witnessed firsthand, individuals (principally vacationers) have been feeding wild coyotes within the Marin Headlands space of California,” Karnazes wrote. “This has obtained to cease.”
The shut name was apparently not his first brush with wildlife.
Karnazes captioned the Instagram put up: “I’ve been attacked by a shark, and now a coyote. Each incidents have been terrifying.”
