As quickly as he arrived in Paris in 1936, Blumenfeld started experimenting prolifically. He employed equipment – veils, opaque glass, mirrors – and complex lighting, then reworked his photos within the darkroom. Influenced by the compositional methods of the New Imaginative and prescient motion, he experimented with solarisations, reticulations, superimpositions, optical and mirror results and contrasts of sunshine and darkish to create a private formal grammar wherein feminine magnificence and the nude has satisfaction of place
