The thriller of the Gatwick drone – podcast

Shortly after 9pm on Wednesday 19 December 2018, a Gatwick safety officer seen one thing within the sky on the perimeter of the airport. He thought it was a drone and known as in his sighting. Moments later the airport was shut to incoming and outgoing flights and one of many strangest mysteries of current years started.

Above the airport, planes have been circling and ready to be diverted elsewhere. Onboard one aircraft was the journalist Samira Shackle, who tells Rachel Humphreys that the expertise was surreal – and made her resolve to search out out what had occurred.

It’s a story that might play out at first over 33 hours of chaos at one among Britain’s busiest airports within the run-up to Christmas. However as arrests have been made and fingers of blame pointed, it revealed a darker facet of hysteria, media witch-hunts and worry of the unknown. As Shackle delved deeper into the story, the thriller grew deeper. Two years on, and with a pandemic that has now brought about much more injury to the working of the airport, she seems again at how the occasions unfolded.
