Marilyn Minter: Coral Ridge Towers (Mother Dyeing Eyebrows), 1969
Marilyn Minter’s hardly ever seen black and white pictures of her mom had been made in 1969 whereas she was a pupil in artwork college. When classmates first seen the pictures, they reacted in shock, exclaiming: ‘Oh my god. That’s your mom?” She had not realised how intensely the pictures would resonate as her mom, a drug addict affected by an anxiousness dysfunction, lived in a nightgown, and barely left the home. Minter didn’t present the work once more till 1994
