Lai Ching-te of Taiwan’s ruling Democratic Progressive Get together (DPP) has been elected because the self-governing island’s new chief following Saturday’s presidential election.
Lai, who entered the election as Taiwan’s vice chairman, claimed victory after the candidate representing the island’s foremost opposition get together, Hou Yu-ih, conceded defeat.
