The US Air Power is stripping away tracts of jungle to make room for brand spanking new airfields, a senior commander stated, noting the transfer is a part of plans to bolster American forces within the Indo-Pacific.
Chatting with reporters at an occasion hosted by the Air and House Forces Affiliation, Pacific Air Forces Commander Basic Kenneth Wilsbach described efforts to refurbish defunct US air bases – together with a World Conflict II-era set up on Tinian, a small island close to Guam.
“We will be clearing out the jungle [on Tinian, and] we’ll be resurfacing among the surfaces there so that we are going to have a reasonably large and really purposeful Agile Fight Employment base, a further base to have the ability to function from and now we have a number of different tasks like that across the area that we’ll be getting after,” Wilsbach stated on Monday.
To perform that aim, the Air Power has requested extra funding from lawmakers in its 2024 funds proposal, the final added, saying the brand new bases can be a part of a “hub-and-spoke” community throughout Asia meant to “deter” Beijing.

Positioned on an island some 110 miles north of Guam, the Tinian navy set up beforehand served as the most important US B-29 bomber base throughout World Conflict II, and has since hosted periodic Navy and Marine wargames. Washington maintains a serious naval base in Guam, a strategic island deep within the Pacific.
