he daughter of the late Desmond Tutu has reportedly been prohibited from main her godfather’s funeral by the Church of England as a result of she is married to a girl.
Mpho Tutu van Furth, who’s a working towards Anglican priest within the US, had been requested to officiate the funeral on Thursday in Shropshire.
In an announcement carried by the BBC, the Diocese of Hereford mentioned: “Recommendation was given according to the Home of Bishops present steerage on same-sex marriage.”
Ms Tutu van Furth reportedly instructed the broadcaster the choice “appeared actually churlish and hurtful”.
The Church of England doesn’t permit same-sex marriage in its clergy, however The Episcopal Church within the US – of which Ms Tutu van Furth is part – does.
She had her licence rescinded in South Africa when she revealed her sexuality.
