Young people who refuse to be vaccinated should be banned from entering clubs and bars until they get the jab, says an influential government adviser.
Devi Sridhar, chairwoman of global public health at Edinburgh University, said some people under 40 need an extra incentive to be inoculated, because they know they are less likely to fall seriously ill from coronavirus.
Nicola Sturgeon has said she will oppose measures that deprive people of their civil liberties but Sridhar warned she “needs to get ahead of the game”.
Other countries are already planning to ban antivaxers from public places as they reopen their economies.
Sridhar said “vaccine passports” for international travel were already on the way and “the next stage is doing it domestically”.
